Located about 7 km from Guwahati, the getaway to North East India, Kamakhya temple is one of the major attractions here. It is situated at Nilachal Hill and has great historical and archaeological significance. The sacred temple is dedicated to Goddess Shakti(Kamakshya) and is one of the oldest Hindu pilgrimage destination in Assam.
Kaziranga National Park
The World Heritage Site, Kaziranga is popular for the conservation of endangered one-horned rhinoceros. It is situated at a distance of 200 km from Guwahati and sprawls over an area of 450 sq.km. The park also boast of as the abode to elephants and variety of Avifauna. The best time to explore the jungle is from October to April.
Shillong or the Scotland of North East India is one of the unexplored hill-stations in the country. It is known for treasuring a number of falls like Crinoline Falls, Elephant Falls, Sweet Falls etc. Besides, a worthy watch lies in visiting Lady Hydari Park, Ward Lake, Butterfly Museum, Shillong Peak and Bara Bazar.
Tourist can also plan an excursion from Shillong to Cherrapunji(56 kms) and Mawsynram(55km) and explore the picturesque caves and cliffs.
Itanagar The capital of Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar is one of the must-visit places in North East India. The place is endowed to mesmerizing mountains and as such tourist also call the place a the land of Dawn lit Mountains. The historical Itafort, situated at the heart of the city, draws countless attentions. It is built of more then 80 lakh bricks, that measures about 16, 200 cubic meters in length. Other places of interest are Ganga Lake, Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Museum, Buddhist Monastery and Emporium.
Gangtok Beholding the many colorful monasteries and pagoda-roofed houses, Gangtok is the capital city of Sikkim. The place has a number of tourist attraction, including Kanchenjunga National Park, Gezing, Jorethang, Khechepari Lake, Phodong Gompa, Yumthang Valley, Tsongo Lake, Rumtek Gompa etc that attracts Indians and foreigners all the year round. Apart from sightseeing, challengers can also enjoy trekking at Dzongri, Goecha La trek etc.
